Honda Reveals New “Bagger” Rebel and Returning Motorcycle Models for 2023

  • New Rebel 1100 Touring offers “bagger” cruiser styling and convenience
  • Announcement includes 6 returning on-road models

Honda Canada announces the return of six on-road motorcycle models. From cruisers to sport to miniMOTOs, the announcement includes a diverse range of motorcycles that showcase the breadth of Honda’s lineup.

The highlight of the announcement is the new “Touring” trim level of the Rebel 1100 platform. The Rebel 1100 Touring builds on the success of Honda’s “new-school” cruiser platform with “bagger” styling (including wind protection and substantial cargo space), offered in both manual-transmission and dual-clutch transmission (DCT) iterations, just like the standard Rebel 1100.

Other returning 2023 models include the Rebel 300 and 500, the updated entry-level sport-naked CB300R, the touring-focused NC750X DCT and the nostalgic Monkey.

REBEL 1100 & REBEL 1100 Touring
In just the two short years since its introduction, Honda’s versatile Rebel 1100 has made waves in the cruiser market, with a “new-school” cruiser design that’s equally adept at relaxed Sunday outings, dynamic backroad carving and longer-distance highway touring. For 2023 the platform is even more capable, with a new “Touring” trim level that offers “bagger” styling and convenience. The Rebel 1100 Touring and Rebel 1100 Touring DCT come standard with a large windscreen, as well as hard saddlebags that offer a combined 35 liters of space, giving riders added comfort and cargo storage.

Still available are the two standard Rebel 1100 versions (manual transmission and DCT) making for a broadened cruiser platform capable of delivering a myriad of riding experiences. All versions feature a high-performance, water-cooled parallel-twin engine with plenty of power for the highway and acceleration for spirited riding, along with comfortable ergonomics, a relaxed riding position and sporty handling.

For those who want to make the Rebel their own, a long list of Honda Accessories are offered.

MONKEY ABS
The Honda Monkey is perhaps most widely known as a groovy icon of the 1970s, but it first saw the light of day in 1961. Originally developed as a 49cc child’s plaything for Tama Tech, an amusement park in Tokyo, it proved so popular that a road-going version was developed, which was initially exported to America and Europe in 1963, with a distinctive chrome tank, folding handlebars and 5-inch diameter rigidly mounted wheels.

Because it was so much fun and easy to ride, it did more to sell the concept of motorcycles to a wider public than perhaps any other machine. With its chunky tires, mini-‘ape’ style handlebars, miniscule fuel tank and big, squashy seat, the Monkey look is unmistakably of its time, but – just like the affection in which it is held – also timeless.

For 23YM, nothing changes mechanically for the Monkey which will be available in a brand-new, ultra-retro, Banana Yellow paint option that features colour-matched frame, forks, swingarm and rear springs, plus the classic tartan seat cover and stylish tank infills that reference the classic Monkey style from the late 1960s.
